Winter offers a perfect backdrop for classroom fun and meaningful learning. Add a few of these engaging activities from Super Teacher Worksheets into your ELA and math instruction!
Finish the Drawing Activity
Print out one copy of this Finish the Drawing Activity for each student. Kids will have fun drawing and coloring their own snowman. Then have your little learners write a creative story about their snowman on the back or on a separate piece of paper. This simple and fun activity can help you teach about characters and setting; the beginning, middle, and end of a story; or problem and solution. After the stories are finished, cozy up by a “fire” video and have students read the stories to each other.
Snowman Sum Game
Practice some snowman sums with this fun game you can do with a partner or group of three. Simply print the Snowman Sum Game and follow the directions on the first page. This would be a great addition to math centers during the winter months. It could also be used as a warmup for the first five minutes of math class. While this activity is targeted for first and second grades, even older students can benefit from this game to review addition facts.
Snowflake Patterns
What would winter be without some paper snowflakes decorating your classroom? These snowflake patterns are perfect to help your students create some beautiful snowflakes. Print out copies of these three snowflake patterns:
Follow the directions to fold and cut out the snowflakes. There are many different ways you could use the snowflakes. Incorporate math by discussing symmetry and have your students use different color markers to draw lines of symmetry. Or discuss how each real snowflake is unique, just like each student in your classroom is unique. Then have students write or draw things that make them unique on their snowflakes.
