For teachers in the south who like to start the year with a hurricane unit, you'll definitely want to check out Erin Ryan's 10 page hurricane packet. It includes articles about how hurricanes form, hurricane safety, and more. There are also lots of comprehension questions. Check it out: Hurricane Unit.

Even though I haven't posted any "news" in awhile, that doesn't mean we've stopped adding great new printables to the site. Actually, I have lots of terrific new materials that your students will enjoy...

There's a new article on Super Teacher Ideas by Lisa Emerson and Alison Cornelius on Using Photostory in the Classroom. It's a great learning tool for making movies and slideshows with your students.

Here are a few new reading comprehension passages second graders. Thanks to Sara Matson for writing these terrific articles!!
- Kate and Will are fiends who eat lunch together. Today, Will finds a strange surprise in his lunch. What could it be? Here's a hint: It's black and white and smells like flowers.
- Libby watches her big brother Max make chocolate chi cookies. She wants to help her brother, but Max insists she's too little. It isn't long before Max discovers that Libby truly IS a big help in the kitchen.
- Jake is a young boy who is going on his very first airplane trip, and he's telling everyone he encounters all about it. When he boards the plane, he wonders if he will enjoy flying.

Many teachers have written e-mails inquiring about an Excel gradebook template for elementary teachers. Because I'm not very fluent in Excel, I haven't been able to add one to the site.. until now. My friend Donny, an Excel wizard, designed a terrific gradebook just for you. Check it out:
This gradebook will calculate student averages, convert number grades to letter grades, and it even has tabs for each subject areas. Just punch in your class' names, assignments, and grades and the spreadsheet does all the work!
